Netflix Streaming Report: The Wolf of Wall Street, American Horror Story: Coven, Anchorman 2, and More

Welcome to your Netflix Streaming Report for December 11, 2014. After the long week you deserve a relaxing staycation with a bowl of popcorn, a bucket of ice cream, and only your Netflix queue to judge you. This past week, Netflix Watch Instant has been kind enough to supply us with American Horror Story: Coven, The Wolf of Wall Street, Anchorman 2, Sharknado 2, and more, which you’ll find after the break.

The Wolf of Wall Street (Martin Scorsese) Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, and Matthew McConaughey

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (Adam McKay) With the 70s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy, returns to take New York’s first 24-hour news channel by storm. Starring Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and James Marsden

Rarely do comedy sequels work, especially if they’re years past their due date. Anchorman came out in 2004, and with comedy, tastes change. They recycle so many jokes that it’s just kind of hard to enjoy. The first movie had something to say with women in the workforce, whereas here, Anchorman 2 is just a hodgepdoge of nothingness. I am, however, interested in checking out the rereleased Super Sized Cut with all new jokes. I am just curious to see if it makes any difference or proves that they were just throwing hotdogs down a hall way. (Watch the trailer) (Watch it now)

American Horror Story: Coven (Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk) An anthology series that centers on different characters and locations, including a haunted house, an insane asylum, a witch coven and a freak show. Starring Evan Peters, Jessica Lange, and Frances Conroy

I’m about five episodes deep right now, and as much as I dislike the series there is something about Coven that is working for me. I think the previous two seasons had too much going on with ideas spewing out from every crevice it could find. But Coven has bigger ideas with more focus. Sure they tease zombies, voodoo, and other areas of the horror genre, but unlike Asylum, everything has a point. I’d jump on board this season and skip the first two. (Watch it now)
